CARIFTA 2024 Swimming Update - Day 3
Jamaica continues to hold onto 4th place.
Team Jamaica continues to make big moves at The Betty-Kelly- Kenning Aquatic Centre where 37th CARIFTA Swimming championships are being held.
Following our performance on Day 1 and Day 2, Team Jamaica had some outstanding swims last night increasing our medal count to 31.

Yesterday’s finals began with the 200M Individual Medley Series.
Kia Alert won Jamaica’s first medal of the evening in this event in the 11-12 girls age group. Alexandria Cogle copped the silver medal in the 13-14 girl age group.

The evening continued with the 50M breaststroke series
Where Kia Alert and Kai Radcliffe dominated their age group category taking the gold in the 11-12 girls and 13-14 boys respectively.
Sabrina Lyn captured the gold in the 18 and over girls category with a personal best of 32.54

Team Jamaica had outstanding swims in the 100M freestyle series
capturing three Gold medals in this event. Our golden girl Kia Alert won gold in a time of 1:01:81 in the 11-12 girls age group. Alexandria Cogle took the silver in the 13-14 girls in a personal best of 1:00:96. 13-14 boys 100M final had spectators on their feet and eruptions in the stands when our own Noland Barrett took the gold in a time of 54.46 ahead of Conor Hupman of Bermuda in a time of 54.83. Jamaica’s Matthew Kennedy placed 3rd in a time of 55.84.
Sabrina Lyn secured yet another gold medal in the 18 and over girls age group with an easy win clocking 56.69, a personal best

In the 200M butterfly series Jamaica’s Matthew Kennedy placed 4th. Brady Lewison and Zack Andre-Johnson made it through to the finals finishing 4th and 8th respectively in the 15-17 boys age group.
Relays for last night’s finals included the:
Mixed 11-12 400 meter freestyle relay where Jamaica won the bronze medal with the quartet of Arush Rochlani, Kai Lawson, Matthew Heaven and Kia Alert.
This was followed by the 800M freestyle relay series. The 13-14 girls finished in 4th place in this event. Once again the 13-14 boys gave spectators a shower of excitement in a close finish for the bronze where our own Noland Barrett touched the wall ahead of Aaron Siewlal of Trinidad and Tobago. Other members of the Jamaica Bronze quartet were Adlai Nixon, Kai Radcliffe and Matthew Kennedy . The 15-17 girls and boys completed the night finishing 4th and 5th respectively.
After three days of competition Jamaica is 4th with 405 points behind Trinidad and Tobago with 466, Cayman Islands 495 and the home team Bahamas in first place with 804 points.
The last day of competition in the pool begins this morning with prelim and tonight will complete this year’s games with finals.
